Kobe Children's Hospital was established in 1970 in commemoration of the 100^th anniversary of Hyogo prefectural government as one of the first children's hospitals in Japan. It is a general hospital for pediatric and perinatal care and has clinics specializing in general pediatrics (cardiology, nephrology, neurology, hematology and oncology,and metabolic diseases), allergy, psychiatry, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic & reconstructive surgery, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, urology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, radiology, anesthesia, obstetrics, neonatology and dentistry.

Since the Perinatal Medical center was established in 1994, we have been providing 24-hour emergency medical care for high-risk pregnant women and newborn babies. In October 2002, we also started 24-hour medical services as a provisional tertiary medical care facility for pediatric emergency. As the number of children per family decreases, it is essential to enhance the pediatric emergency medical care system in order to ensure children’s safety. We are doing our best to meet people’s expectations in Hyogo Prefecture as the core hospital for pediatric and perinatal emergency medical services, working closely with other medical hospitals and clinics in Hyogo Prefecture and other prefectures in Japan.

We opened the General Medical Care Clinic in October 2003 and the Community Medical Cooperation Room in April 2005 in order to make the hospital more accessible for patients. Pediatric medical care does not end when patients leave the hospital. It is essential to maintain care at home and in the community. It is also important to create an environment where children with long-term illnesses can live with adequate level of the quality of life in the society. We have medical social workers specializing in children at the Department of Guidance and Consultation & Community Medical Cooperation in order to provide meticulous medical services in conjunction with local medical facilities, and we hope our various medical resources can be widely utilized.
